A lot of back and neck pain is mechanical and relates to poor posture, especially in the work place. Intervertebral disc degeneration and facet joint osteoarthritis are other common causes. Spinal surgery is, fortunately, rarely necessary and there are many preferable methods to treating spinal problems.
